Social Canvas is a joint effort between SETU Wexford’s Art and Visual Communications students with Creative Places Ennsicorthy to bring arts and community collaboration to various marginalised communities within Enniscorthy town, with the goal of promoting local involvement and unity within Enniscorthy. We achieved this via numerous small projects, from workshops to installation art pieces, over the first half of 2024. This website was created to be the central archive of our efforts.

Socially Engaged Practice Module
This module for Third Year Art and Visual Communications students, explores civic engagement and socially engaged participation in the community. The primary region within which this takes place is Wexford. The module aims to foster greater appreciation amongst learners of the issues and needs of their local community. This course aims to create awareness about the importance of civic participation in their locality, cross-cultural engagement, personal and social responsibility, leadership skills, listening skills and critical reflection. It will also aim to foster confidence in using blogs and websites for dialogue, debate and reflection.
Socially engaged art is where the social interaction is the art. The participatory element of socially engaged practice is key. It can be with a community group, a historic site or even marginalised people. Socially engaged practices are a way of empowering the disempowered and including the excluded, and can achieve radical and remarkable transformations. Art can facilitate empowerment and well-being and serve as a means for the transformation of the community.
